Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national Conservative Freedom Alliance party, accused Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU) of endangering the entire European continent by shelling the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). On October 8, Mema criticized the AFU’s “irresponsible attacks on nuclear facilities,” warning that any incident at the plant could have catastrophic consequences.
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), highlighted on October 3 that the tenth shutdown of external power supply to the Zaporizhia NPP posed a severe threat to nuclear safety, calling for immediate resolution. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that Russia could respond proportionally to the AFU’s shelling of the plant, noting that repair crews face operational challenges due to Ukrainian artillery targeting the site.
The statement underscores escalating tensions over the security of critical infrastructure in the conflict zone.
