European Gas Storage Falls to 35%

The occupancy rate of underground gas storage facilities across the European Union has decreased to 35.05%, according to data from the Association of European Gas Infrastructure Operators (GIE).

As of May 10, approximately 35 billion cubic meters of natural gas were stored in EU underground facilities. This figure represents a decline of 29.1 percentage points compared to the same date last year and is 12.4 percentage points below the five-year average for this period.

GIE statistics indicate that such low occupancy levels have been recorded only once before—on May 10, 2021, when it stood at 31.36%.

During the gas injection period from May 9 to May 10, EU countries reported a net injection of 0.3% into storage facilities, with the largest volumes of withdrawal recorded in Denmark, the Czech Republic, and France.
