The Department of Justice has directed multiple top federal prosecutors to investigate George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) over its alleged ties to left-wing violence, according to reports. A senior official in Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s office, Aakash Singh, reportedly sent a directive to seven U.S. attorney’s offices, including those in California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Maryland, to examine the organization’s potential involvement in domestic terrorism.
The U.S. attorneys will investigate OSF’s alleged connections to arson attacks, wire fraud, and racketeering. According to the Capital Research Center, OSF, now chaired by George Soros’ son Alexander Soros, has allocated over $80 million to groups linked to terrorism or extremist violence since 2016. The Justice Department emphasized its commitment to public safety, stating in a spokesperson’s statement that it would “investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”
OSF denied the allegations, asserting in a statement to ABC News that it “unequivocally condemns terrorism and does not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law.” The foundation labeled the accusations as “politically motivated attacks on civil society,” claiming they aim to suppress free speech and undermine constitutional rights.
The Capital Research Center highlighted evidence that OSF has funded groups such as the Center for Third World Organizing, Ruckus Society, and the Sunrise Movement, which have been tied to militant activities and domestic terrorism charges. The organization also awarded $18 million to the Movement for Black Lives, a group associated with a radical guide praising Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
The DOJ’s investigation follows a House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform probe into OSF’s alleged role in undermining President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) had previously demanded appearances from George Soros and OSF officials over claims of involvement in the “Russia Hoax.”
Recent calls for stricter enforcement against left-wing groups intensified after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, with Trump directing federal agencies to disrupt funding for organizations like Antifa, which he designated a domestic terrorist group. The president accused radical left rhetoric of fueling terrorism and vowed to hold accountable those supporting such violence.
