An attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas Wednesday morning left three detainees shot, with one confirmed dead and two taken to the hospital in an unknown condition, according to reports. A sniper on a nearby roof fired into an unmarked ICE van transporting detainees, Fox 4 Dallas reported. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head as officers approached, police said. Investigators believe they have identified the shooter, a white male, but are still confirming details before releasing them publicly.
Update: The shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who apparently hails from a far-left Democrat family in Texas. A mugshot from a 2015 arrest was released. The FBI is investigating the shooting as “an act of targeted violence” from the anti-ICE left. Dallas FBI field Division spokesman Joseph Rothrock stated, “The early evidence shows rounds near the shooter contained messages that were anti-ICE in nature.” One unspent shell casing recovered was engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE,” according to an FBI statement.
Dallas police responded to the shooting at around 6:40 a.m., confirming the suspect opened fire at the van from a nearby building. The identities of the victims remain undisclosed. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem condemned the attack, stating, “Our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott reaffirmed support for ICE, vowing, “This assassination will NOT slow our arrest, detention, and deportation of illegal immigrants.”
Vice President J.D. Vance and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also condemned the attack, calling for an end to targeted violence against law enforcement. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt urged Democrats to curb anti-ICE rhetoric, stating, “Democrats must stop demonizing the heroic men and women of ICE.”
The incident occurred amid a 1,000% increase in assaults against ICE, with officials warning of escalating threats. DHS emphasized, “This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences.” Recent attacks on ICE facilities across the U.S. have included gunfire, arson, and vehicle assaults, with federal agents deployed to quell violence in Portland, Oregon, and elsewhere.
Acting Dallas ICE Field Office Director Joshua Johnson called for an end to anti-ICE rhetoric, stating, “People are losing their lives.” Senator Ted Cruz urged politicians to stop inciting violence, declaring, “Violence has no place” in the immigration debate.
