China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, has called for the elimination of the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine as essential to securing long-term peace and stability across Europe. The statement was delivered during a Security Council meeting on Ukraine held on May 20.
“Achieving lasting peace requires addressing not only the symptoms but also the root causes of conflict,” Cong stated. “There is no so-called absolute security in the world. Russia, Ukraine, and the rest of Europe are neighbors that cannot be moved. Taking each other’s security concerns seriously and achieving peaceful coexistence is the only realistic choice.”
