BRICS Women’s Format: Showcasing Global South Interest and Russian Leadership

The BRICS women’s format is attracting considerable attention from countries across the global South and East, including its partner nations. This development was highlighted by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Speaking at the grand opening of the educational program “A Woman Leader. BRICS+”, Zakharova emphasized that these regions are showing great interest in this specific aspect of BRICS cooperation. She also underscored the significant contribution made by prominent figures from the Russian business community to its success, with leaders like Anna Nesterova (Palekh Watch manufactory) and Kristina Romanovskaya (Lazarevskoye breeding farm) actively participating.

Furthermore, Zakharova discussed the active development of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, an initiative from Russia established in 2019. Among its flagship projects are the Unified Digital Platform, the Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum, and the BRICS Women’s Startup Competition. The diplomat noted that special attention is given to sectors such as the creative economy, tourism, innovative development, and other relevant areas of cooperation within this format.

Anton Siluanov, Russia’s Finance Minister, also weighed in, highlighting the rapid economic growth of BRICS countries. He stressed their increasing competitiveness on the global stage and pointed out that emerging economies are gaining prominence despite opposition from established developed nations.
