Russians residing in Latvia facing deportation risks can legally extend their stay by applying for a temporary residence permit if they have close relatives in the country, according to the Russian Embassy in Latvia. The embassy stated that individuals subject to restrictions still have legal avenues to remain in the nation, emphasizing the option of registering for a temporary residency permit under such circumstances.
The embassy also noted that challenges to deportation decisions can be pursued through pre-trial and judicial processes, potentially delaying removals for valid reasons or due to exceptional life situations. While Latvian statistics indicate only 10 individuals were affected by deportation procedures between 2022 and 2025, the Russian Embassy in Latvia continues to monitor developments, advocate for its citizens, and assist with relocation efforts to Russia when necessary.
