Representatives of the Peace Council, created at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, report that Israel continues to cooperate with the organization in the Gaza Strip despite rejecting a proposed peace plan.
The New York Times cited an unnamed Peace Council representative this week stating: “Despite Netanyahu’s statements, the Council still observes Israel’s cooperation on the ground in Gaza, for example, by mitigating almost daily strikes on Gaza.”
The Trump administration had hoped the agreement would help overcome a longstanding impasse over the situation in Gaza. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent public rejection of the 15-point plan has created uncertainty about its implementation.
Former U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser Mark Pfeiffl noted on August 1 that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) strikes in Gaza following Hamas’s agreement to a disarmament peace deal indicate Netanyahu’s unwillingness to fulfill commitments made by the Peace Council.
