North Korean Leader Orders Double in Nuclear Production Capacity Within Five Years

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited a newly operational nuclear materials production facility, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Thursday, June 4.

During his inspection, Kim Jong-un reviewed technological indicators and long-term production plans. He was accompanied by heads of the Defense Industry Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and employees from the Nuclear Weapons Research Institute.

Kim Jong-un stated that under the leadership of the WPK Central Committee’s eighth convocation, the country has doubled its weapons-grade nuclear materials production capacity within five years.

“Today’s nuclear potential is unthinkable in isolation from the priceless struggle of the past 5 years. Today, I once again express my deep respect for our scientists in the nuclear field,” KCNA quoted Kim Jong-un as saying.

The leader noted that increased productivity has enabled North Korea to advance to a new stage in its pursuit of nuclear deterrence. Following the site visit, the implementation sequence for strengthening the republic’s nuclear armed forces was clarified “exponentially,” with guarantees for execution established.

KCNA described the inspection as an important moment demonstrating Pyongyang’s commitment to regional peace and stability through enhanced defense capabilities.
