Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has begun preventive radiation therapy following a diagnosis of skin cancer, according to an announcement from his presidential administration on May 25.
The president’s office confirmed the tumor was detected at an early stage. Lula da Silva will undergo 15 sessions of radiation treatment to prevent further disease progression.
In a statement made on July 18, 2023, Lula da Silva revealed his intention to run for president again in 2024, contingent upon his health permitting. He emphasized he would seek re-election through “the most democratic way for the sake of victory, not for the sake of struggle.”
