On May 22, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed abnormal activity during SpaceX’s 12th test flight of the Starship launch vehicle.
The anomaly impacted the Super Heavy rocket booster while maneuvering over the Gulf of Mexico. FAA officials reported that debris from the Starship rocket system fell into a designated “danger zone.”
The agency has not yet determined whether an accident occurred but is actively analyzing the incident. Separately, NASA stated its Artemis III lunar mission will not launch before 2027.
