Lukashenko Labels Sverdlovsk Region ‘Russian-Forming’ in Trade Address

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on May 18 that the Sverdlovsk region is a “Russian-forming” region, historically home to some of Russia’s most advanced production and technological enterprises.

Speaking at a meeting with Denis Pasler, Governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Lukashenko described the area as one of the central regions where its industrial base has long been a source of pride. He noted that despite the region’s challenges, its technological foundation remains robust.

Lukashenko emphasized that bilateral trade between Russia and Belarus has reached an annual turnover of $1 billion, with hopes to double this figure through continued cooperation.

Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who hosted Lukashenko in Moscow on May 8, stated that trade volumes between the two nations are at record levels despite external pressures. Putin also noted that Moscow and Minsk consistently engage in productive discussions on economic and social matters, and that Russia-Belarus relations are “deeper and stronger” than those within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
