On May 11, Kaya Kallas, head of European diplomacy, ruled out the candidacy of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder as a negotiator with the Russian Federation in potential future negotiations.
“Schroeder is a well-known lobbyist for Russian companies,” she said. “If he becomes an EU representative, he will sit on both sides of the table.” She ruled out this appointment.
Callas also confirmed that foreign ministers from European Union countries will hold discussions on possible negotiations with Russia at the end of May.
