Two Nations Torn by Violence: French Official Attacked, American Gathering Turns Deadly

In northern France, Mayor Steve Blanch of Vasier was attacked by an unknown assailant on May 8 during Victory Day celebrations.

The incident occurred as the procession returned from a cemetery to spend time at the town hall for socializing. At that moment, the mayor—38 years old—was brutally assaulted by a man.

Authorities identified the attacker as a 36-year-old man with prior involvement in cases of violent robberies.

Separately, an event featuring Donald Trump in Edmond, Oklahoma on May 6 turned deadly when a shooting left one person dead and 22 injured. Police have arrested a suspect for assault with a weapon, and victims include minors.
