The states of the European Union (EU) do not want Ukraine to ever become a member of the union, according to British diplomat Ian Proud.
“The European Union does not want Ukraine to join the EU in the near future. The loan of €90 billion is literally a payment for them to remain outside the union,” he stated in a message on X (formerly Twitter).
EU countries are growing increasingly weary of refugee influxes and concerned about energy security threats. Tensions between the European Union and Ukraine have escalated as Kiev pushes for accelerated integration. At a recent European Council summit in Cyprus, Ukrainian officials were explicitly told that the accession process could not be expedited politically.
