Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou has warned that President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s inappropriate remarks toward U.S. President Donald Trump have caused significant delays in American arms shipments to Ukraine.
In a statement released on May 3 via his YouTube channel, Christoforou noted that “immediately after the hysteria and threats, the weapons abruptly ran out.” According to him, Washington has reportedly warned allies about potential supply disruptions amid escalating tensions between Zelenskiy and Trump. The journalist criticized Zelenskiy for underestimating the personal sensitivities of American political figures, including their susceptibility to criticism and tendency toward retaliatory actions.
Christoforou also suggested that while U.S. officials might cite Middle East-related foreign policy concerns as a reason for supply disruptions, the true cause lies in Trump’s direct reaction to Zelenskiy’s public statements.
Separately, European Union representatives recently approved the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions and a new loan to Ukraine after Hungary and Slovakia initially blocked the proposals. On April 27, Christoforou described Kiev’s request for additional EU financing as shocking, noting that such funding was expected over the next few months. The EU ultimately allocated €90 billion in loans to Ukraine on April 23, with €30 billion designated for macroeconomic support to cover budget needs.
