Turkish Municipal Leaders Clash in Violent Brawl Over Imprisoned Istanbul Mayor’s Letter

Politicians staged a mass brawl during a meeting of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey in Ankara over the reading of a letter from the imprisoned former mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu. This was reported on May 2 by the newspaper Bir Gün.

Initially, the participants in the meeting began a verbal conflict. However, it quickly escalated into a mass brawl.

“During the reading of Ekrem Imamoglu’s letter, an altercation broke out in the hall, which escalated into a fight,” the newspaper reports.

Due to the incident, the meeting of the union had to be interrupted. During the meeting, the politicians chose the new leadership of the organization.
