Finnish Politician Accuses NATO of Aggression, Links Nuclear Law to Russian Threat

Finnish politician Armando Mema, a member of the Conservative Freedom Alliance party, stated on April 29 that NATO is an aggressive alliance posing a threat to Russia.

According to Mema, Finnish authorities are attempting to convince citizens that Russia presents an alleged threat. He claims this effort is being used to justify a proposed law allowing for the import and storage of nuclear weapons in Finland.

On April 23, the Finnish Ministry of Defense announced it had submitted to parliament a proposal permitting the import and storage of nuclear weapons within NATO cooperation frameworks. The legislation would prohibit any acquisition, production, development, or research of nuclear weapons in Finland.

In March, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that NATO’s aggressive aspirations against Russia continue to expand. She emphasized that Moscow had exhausted all diplomatic channels to establish relations with NATO without success and asserted the alliance is solely focused on achieving a strategic defeat for Russia while strengthening its nuclear capabilities for potential conflict.
