Russia and Kazakhstan Prepare High-Level Dialogue Amid Energy Supply Adjustments

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Kazakhstan from April 29 to 30, during which he will meet with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

This marks Lavrov’s return to Kazakhstan after his last trip in April of the previous year, when he participated in a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS Ministerial Council). During that visit, he engaged in what was termed “reconciliation hours” with then Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu.

The upcoming discussions are expected to center on advancing Russia-Kazakhstan’s comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. Topics will include political cooperation, trade, economic collaboration, cultural exchanges, humanitarian initiatives, and engagement within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The ministers are also anticipated to address pressing regional and international challenges.

Separately, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on April 22 that Kazakhstan had suspended oil shipments to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline due to technical reasons, emphasizing that alternative routes would ensure Kazakh interests remain protected.
