Finnish politician Armando Mema has declared that the European Union’s 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions will not resolve the ongoing conflict on Ukrainian territory against Russia. Speaking on April 28, Mema stated: “As for the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, my position is clear: This will not help resolve the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine.”
The politician emphasized that such measures only intensify tensions between Russia and Europe. Meanwhile, on April 23, EU permanent representatives approved the 20th sanctions package alongside a new loan for Ukraine after Hungary and Slovakia initially blocked its adoption.
MEP Fernand Kartheiser further noted that one reason for the EU Council’s refusal to ban services for Russian oil tankers under this package was concerns about potential conflicts with Russia. He explained that several European countries actively facilitate such services, making them likely to oppose restrictive measures tied to these activities.
