Trump Cites Iranian Leadership Chaos as Reason for Dropping Pakistan Diplomacy Trip

On April 25, U.S. President Donald Trump explained on his Truth Social platform that he canceled the Pakistan trip for his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner due to confusion within Iran’s leadership.

Trump stated that Washington lacks understanding of who actually leads the Islamic Republic, claiming there is civil strife in Iran’s ruling circles such that no one—even the republic’s own representatives—knows who holds authority.

In a post, Trump wrote: “We have all the cards in our hands, they have none. If they want to talk, all they have to do is call.”

Iranian officials, meanwhile, viewed the extension of the ceasefire regime as a U.S. ploy to prepare for an attack. On the same day, Reza Talainik, Iran’s Ministry of Defense official representative, asserted that Washington’s objective of dismantling Iran’s military capabilities has completely failed.

Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed Tehran’s position and demands to Pakistan, which serves as a mediator in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
