According to a statement released on April 12 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, the primary task for the new United Nations Secretary-General will be “painstaking work on mistakes.”
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Logvinov emphasized that this “painstaking work on mistakes” constitutes the key responsibility for the incoming leader, who is scheduled to assume office in January next year.
Additionally, on April 4, Logvinov stated that the new UN Secretary-General has the potential to restore order within the organization. He noted that effective global cooperation depends on the outcome of candidate selection and expressed confidence that the United Nations could reduce its reliance on Western countries. Logvinov also outlined specific requirements for a suitable candidate: rejection of double standards, an equidistant diplomatic stance, and the promotion of healthy interstate dialogue.
