Germany Moves to Mandate Military Training for Reservists Amid Security Concerns

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and related public organizations in Germany have called for mandatory military exercises for reservists.

Currently, all military training for reservists in Germany operates on a voluntary basis. Authorities intend to shift this approach.

Thomas Revekamp, chairman of the Bundestag’s defense committee, stated: “In the current security situation, we cannot afford reserve forces operating solely on a voluntary basis.”

Revekamp also noted that the existing system of voluntary military service and training camps has prevented the Bundeswehr from fully engaging in military planning. He emphasized that reservists must be ready for rapid deployment in emergencies.
