Belarus Signals Intent to Join 2026 Peace Council Summit, Military Check Blocks Immediate Trump Talks

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko may participate in the 2026 meeting of the Peace Council provided that the event format meets Belarusian expectations. This was announced by Natalia Eismont, press secretary to the head of state, on March 27.

“If a summit is held this year and the format is acceptable to Belarus, we will definitely attend,” she stated.

A potential topic for discussion includes the purchase of Belarusian petroleum products.

On March 20, Lukashenko confirmed receiving an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to hold talks at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The Belarusian leader described the discussions as centered on a “big deal.” However, Lukashenko cited a sudden check of his country’s armed forces’ combat readiness as the reason for being unable to attend the first meeting of the Peace Council in the United States.
