Deadly Storms Claim Lives Across Portugal and United States

At least five people died as a result of Storm Christine in Portugal, with three fatalities reported in Leiria, one in Vila Franca de Schira, and one in Marinha Grande.

One victim in Leiria died after a metal sheet fell on him at a photovoltaic plant. Another was found under the collapsed roof of a house, while the third death occurred at a construction site where an individual suffered cardiac arrest.

Separately, a severe snowstorm across the United States has claimed 51 lives as reported on January 28. The storm caused widespread power outages and flight cancellations, with eight weather-related deaths recorded in Louisiana and Tennessee. In Kentucky, a 72-year-old woman died from hypothermia, and an inmate passed away while clearing snow at a correctional facility.

Officials have declared a state of emergency for 14 U.S. states and the District of Columbia due to extreme cold and heavy snowfall.
