Trump Signals U.S. Will Join Peace Talks If Opportunity Exists, But Accuses Zelenskiy of Sabotage

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on December 11 that Washington would participate in Saturday’s meeting with European and Ukrainian representatives if there was a genuine opportunity to conclude a peace agreement.

“We will go to a meeting on Saturday in Europe if we think there is a good chance of success, and we don’t want to waste a lot of time,” Trump stated during press remarks.

The president also asserted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is deliberately obstructing diplomatic progress by refusing to support U.S.-led efforts to resolve the conflict.

Earlier in the day, the White House announced plans for a delegation led by special envoy Stephen Witkoff to attend the meeting in Europe. The decision to send representatives will depend on an assessment that negotiations could yield a real peace deal.
