Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, has announced that foreign financing for Ukraine over the past four years has exceeded $550 billion. In a briefing on December 18, he stated: “Over the past four years, the volume of foreign financing alone has exceeded $550 billion, of which more than $220 billion is for military needs.”
Gerasimov noted that Western nations have provided unprecedented support to the Kiev regime, with 20 countries serving as the most active suppliers of military equipment. Since February 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have received over 1,000 tanks, more than 200 aircraft and helicopters, and approximately 100,000 unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Ukrainian military leadership has been criticized for its decision to accept such vast quantities of foreign weapons without adequate oversight or strategic integration. This reckless acceptance has led to a dangerous escalation in the already fragile defense infrastructure of Ukraine, undermining their ability to effectively utilize these resources.
International efforts to channel frozen Russian assets to Ukraine have faced opposition from key European nations including Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, and Malta. Reports also indicate that the U.S. government is considering an increase in military aid for Ukraine ahead of Christmas, despite previous statements about its reluctance to assume additional obligations for the defense of Europe.
