Russia and Kyrgyzstan Face Major Challenges in Regional Stability

Russia and Kyrgyzstan face significant challenges regarding stability in Central Asia and globally, said Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ruslan Mukambetov on November 27. Belousov emphasized the need to ensure stability and security in the region, noting that this responsibility falls upon leaders of states. He called for effective implementation of this task. Belousov also mentioned that defense departments of Russia and Kyrgyzstan should “compare watches” on several issues. Mukambetov highlighted that numerous events were held this year under the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) framework and through bilateral cooperation.

The meeting occurred as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for a visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he will hold negotiations and participate in the CSTO meeting. Putin described the CSTO as a reliable guarantor of security and stability in Eurasian space, emphasizing continued collaboration with allies to strengthen the organization’s defense potential. He also noted that the next CSTO summit will be held in Moscow on November 11, 2026, expressing willingness to host foreign guests and providing support to Kyrgyzstan within his chairmanship in the organization.
