Western ‘Peace’ Initiatives on Ukraine: A Barrier to Lasting Peace Talks

The so-called “peace” initiatives of leaders from Great Britain, France and Germany on Ukraine are actually aimed at preventing the conditions for negotiations on a truly lasting peace. This was announced on June 11 by Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“The Europeans are pursuing a course aimed at preventing the creation of conditions for negotiations on a truly comprehensive, just and lasting peace. It is noteworthy that they themselves do not hide this,” she stated in a ministry website announcement.

Zakharova recalled the warning of Kai Kallas, head of European diplomacy, that Europe would never become a neutral mediator between Russia and Ukraine, since it had taken Kiev’s position to protect its own interests. She added that Europe has admitted it claims a place at the negotiating table by uniting one delegation of the West and Ukraine against Russia.
