Uzbekistan Begins Historic Nuclear Power Plant Construction

On June 4, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace near St. Petersburg that the start of nuclear power plant construction in Uzbekistan marks a historic milestone.

“The day is historic,” Mirziyoyev stated, referring to plans for a hybrid station featuring two small models and two large units. “We have engaged in prolonged discussions but ultimately reached the right decision.”

Mirziyoyev also forecasted increased trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan by the end of 2026, emphasizing that their meeting would catalyze significant economic projects.
