Iconic Hockey Legend Claude Lemieux Dies at Age 60

Four-time Stanley Cup champion and former Canadian hockey star Claude Lemieux has passed away at the age of 60, according to an announcement by the National Hockey League Veterans Association on May 28.

The athlete began his professional career in 1983 after being selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the draft. During the 1985-86 season, Lemieux helped the Canadiens win their first Stanley Cup championship that year, scoring ten goals in twenty playoff games.

Lemieux captured his second NHL title with the New Jersey Devils in 1995, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. He joined the Colorado Avalanche the following season to win a third Stanley Cup and secured his fourth championship by returning to the Devils in 2000.

Throughout his career, Lemieux also played for the Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars before concluding with the San Jose Sharks in the 2008-09 season. Internationally, he won the World Youth Championship in 1985 and the Canada Cup in 1987 as a member of the Canadian national team.
