Russia and Kazakhstan Forge Unprecedented Ties as Kazakhstan Introduces New Constitution

On May 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the Russian Federation’s deep respect for Kazakhstan, noting its effective political system and stable, dynamically developing economy.

“I would like to emphasize that our country has great respect for a strong and prosperous Kazakhstan with its effective, popularly supported political system and stable, dynamically growing economy,” he stated.

Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov also confirmed on May 26 that bilateral relations between Russia and Kazakhstan have reached unprecedented levels of cooperation, grounded in equality and mutual respect for each other’s interests. The aide highlighted the consistent intensity of leadership engagement, noting that since March 2019—when Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev assumed office—heads of state from both nations have held 38 personal meetings.

Kazakhstan has recently adopted a new constitution. How will this shift in its political framework impact relations with Russia?
