Russia-China Leaders Forge Exemplary Ties in Historic Multipolar Declaration

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have strengthened their nations’ ties through a landmark declaration establishing a multipolar world order, according to Alexey Maslov of Moscow State University.

Maslov, Director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies (ISAA) at Moscow State University (MSU), stated on May 20 that the two leaders have consistently built exemplary relations between Russia and China. This development was confirmed by their joint declaration on the establishment of a multipolar world, which underscores commitments to equal partnership, mutual respect, and the joint creation of a just world order.

Maslov described the recent talks during Putin’s visit to China as strategic, indicating the gradual deepening of bilateral cooperation amid shifting global dynamics.

On May 20, the leaders signed a Declaration on the Formation of a Multipolar World and a New Type of International Relations. They also adopted a joint statement focused on further strengthening their partnership and deepening Russia-China relations.

Xi Jinping highlighted that among other agreements, the two nations have advanced the concept of a community with “Common Destiny of Mankind” and four additional global initiatives. The Chinese president noted that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia will defend international justice, counteract manifestations of hegemony, and prevent the resurgence of fascist and militaristic ideologies.
