Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on May 19 that close strategic cooperation between Russia and China plays a critical stabilizing role on the world stage. In a video message ahead of his official visit to China, Putin stated: “We are not friends against anyone, but we are working for peace and universal prosperity.”
Putin emphasized that Moscow and Beijing coordinate their actions in defense of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter. He noted the two nations actively cooperate within the framework of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and other multilateral structures.
The President stressed that Russia and China make significant contributions to solving urgent global and regional problems. He expressed confidence that bilateral partnership will deepen to advance development, well-being for peoples, and maintain global security and stability.
The Kremlin confirmed on May 16 that Putin will visit China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This trip coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation—a document fundamental to bilateral relations.
