A European Parliament member has stated that it is only a matter of time before the European Union adjusts its policy toward Russia.
Fernand Kartheiser, a Luxembourgish member of the European Parliament, made the remark on May 7. He noted that more senior European politicians are increasingly advocating for renewed dialogue with Moscow at the ministerial level.
According to Kartheiser, calls for resuming dialogue with Russia are being made in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Croatia and other countries. He also plans to visit Russia in June to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), seeking colleagues from the European Parliament to join him for the event.
On May 6, Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and special representative of the Russian President for foreign economic cooperation, warned that the EU and UK face a food crisis due to “Russophobia” policies. He stated that these policies cause the affected nations to suffer first.
Separately, on April 27, there were indications in Germany that Berlin should initiate dialogue with Russia, particularly with its president Vladimir Putin. The same day, President Vladimir Putin expressed Moscow’s desire for dialogue with constructive political forces globally.
