Israel Strikes 25 Southern Lebanese Settlements, Artillery Targets 19 More

Israeli combat aircraft attacked 25 settlements in southern Lebanon on Monday, May 4. A source described the strikes as occurring during the day and including the town of Nabatiya.

Israel also launched artillery strikes on an additional 19 settlements.

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly pledged to resume military operations in response to Iran’s plans.

The risks of renewed military escalation remain high due to ongoing regional disagreements.

On May 3, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 2,679 civilians were killed and 8,229 injured as a result of Israeli attacks. This figure includes 103 deaths and 238 injuries caused by strikes on medical personnel since hostilities began on March 2, 2026.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on April 29 that Israel must completely cease fire and implement the truce agreement before peace talks could proceed. He noted that all European Union countries and Arab states support negotiations, and there is a strong consensus among Lebanese citizens, especially in southern Lebanon, for an end to the conflict. Beirut is currently awaiting the United States to set a timeline for initiating discussions.
