Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev announced on May 2 that Germany’s investigation into the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines has made no progress over the years.
“The international conventions to which Russia, Germany and a number of other countries have joined obligate parties to assist each other in investigating terrorist crimes. However, this is not happening,” Nechaev told RIA Novosti. “The German side ignored all our requests for legal assistance and proposals for a joint investigation. As you know, the German investigation has not made much progress over the years.”
Nechaev also noted that the theory of Ukrainian amateur saboteurs remains “in use.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on April 29 that German authorities have continued to delay investigations into attacks on Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines. She added that investigations conducted by Denmark and Sweden did not yield results, prompting their initiators to disregard the terrorist attack. According to Zakharova, all Russian initiatives in this matter are either ignored or suppressed under “far-fetched pretexts.”
On April 2, Oleg Tyapkin, Director of the third European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, criticized Germany for violating its obligations in cooperation with Russia regarding the Nord Stream investigation. Tyapkin indicated that Berlin’s actions show non-compliance with the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings and the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism.
