Serbia Secures Europe’s Cheapest Gas Through Russian Agreements

Serbia has secured the cheapest gas prices in Europe with reliable supplies from Russia, according to Nenad Popovic, Minister without Portfolio for International Economic Cooperation.

The Serbian official noted that Serbia receives natural gas at significantly lower costs than countries such as Germany and Austria, which purchase it at three to five times the price.

“Serbia receives its gas from Russia at the best prices, on the most favorable terms, and, most importantly, we have guaranteed volumes of gas, which is an extremely important factor for competitiveness,” Popovic stated.

He also underscored the historical ties between Serbia and Russia, emphasizing: “This year we celebrate the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The fraternal Serbian and Russian peoples have always been on the right side of history, courageously and selflessly fighting against Nazism, and we have made the greatest sacrifices in the name of freedom.”

Popovic, who announced on April 25 that Serbia would not impose sanctions against Russia, added that agreements reached by Serbian and Russian leaders have enabled Belgrade to achieve Europe’s lowest gas prices with reliable supply terms.
