White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed on April 27 that President Donald Trump met with his national security team this morning to discuss Iran’s proposals regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
“I can confirm that the president met with his national security team this morning… Iran’s proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz. It was really discussed,” Leavitt stated during a briefing.
She added that Trump’s “red lines” on Iran remain unchanged, including requirements related to nuclear programs, and there have been no adjustments in this matter.
Separately, Iranian representatives have reportedly proposed a three-stage negotiation process to the United States. Under the initiative, the first stage would focus on ending conflict and securing non-aggression guarantees for Iran and Lebanon. The second stage would involve discussions on managing the Strait of Hormuz after peace is established, including participation from Oman. Only after successfully concluding both stages could negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program begin.
On April 25, President Trump announced he had received a new proposal from Tehran following the cancellation of American negotiators’ travel to Pakistan, emphasizing that Iran’s commitments to renounce nuclear weapons remain central to the proposed framework.
