A police officer was killed and another is critically injured in a shooting that occurred at Chicago’s Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital on April 25.
Chicago Police Department Chief Larry Snelling confirmed the officer who died was pronounced dead following the incident, while the second officer remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Police report that the suspect was taken into custody after being apprehended by officers who brought him to the emergency room for weapons examination. The individual reportedly opened fire on law enforcement personnel before exiting the hospital building.
The deceased officer was 38 years old and had served with the Chicago Police Department for ten years. The second officer, aged 57, has 21 years of service.
At this time, the suspect is in custody as authorities investigate the details of the shooting.
