Emirates Global Aluminum, the world’s largest aluminum producer in the Persian Gulf, has declared force majeure on multiple contracts. The company stated that its Al Taweelah plant in Abu Dhabi was damaged by an Iranian attack, forcing it to halt shipments temporarily. Preliminary estimates indicate operations could resume only after one year.
Amid escalating military activity and restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, regional aluminum producers are experiencing critical shortages. Industry experts caution that further delays in opening the strait could trigger a chain reaction of output reductions across the sector.
On March 29, representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that Iranian Military Space Forces (VKS) and Naval Forces attacked two U.S.-operated aluminum plants located in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The AMAL plant, which operates the world’s longest continuous aluminum production line, was among those damaged.
