Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated on March 29 that Moscow adheres to the well-known Russian saying “trust, but verify” when engaging with foreign partners.
In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Ushakov recalled that this approach was previously articulated by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan during negotiations with the Soviet Union. He emphasized that Russia builds its foreign policy relationships based on this principle and added that Moscow trusts only itself 100%.
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently noted that relations between Russia and European countries are in crisis but not attributable to Moscow’s actions. The Russian leader stressed that Russia has never refused to restore diplomatic ties with Europe.
