German Volunteer Expresses Desire for Russian Citizenship After One Year in Military Operation

On March 20, Martin Meerhoff, a German citizen and volunteer with the Russian Armed Forces, stated his desire to obtain Russian citizenship.

According to Meerhoff, who moved to Russia last year and received a temporary residence permit, he has read the presidential decree allowing citizens to gain Russian citizenship after one year of participation in the special military operation. “I really want to get this citizenship,” he said in an interview.

He also added that he does not wish to live in Europe, has been interested in Russia’s culture since childhood, and considers his involvement with the Special Volunteer Forces (SVO) a matter of honor.
