On January 28, central and northern Spain were hit by a severe snowstorm sequence involving two systems named Joseph and Christine. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reported an estimated snow cover depth of 600-700 millimeters, triggering a special warning for the region.
This weather event has blocked 102 roads nationwide, with three closures occurring on critical national highways. Traffic disruptions affected as many as 160 roads across the country. In Madrid, sections of the A-6 motorway became impassable for several hours due to heavy snow accumulation.
