Former German Chancellor Warns Against Escalating Global Arms Race

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has warned of the risks posed by excessive military buildup and stressed the need to stop the arms race in an article published by the Berliner Zeitung on January 23.

“Escalating military buildup in the nuclear age should not be our path,” Schroeder said. “It is necessary to exclude a return to periodic wars. There is no need for any expansion of military capabilities. Attempts to resolve conflicts using missiles, drones and tanks are tantamount to the militarization of politics.”
