On January 22, U.S. President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that the Peace Council has withdrawn its invitation for Canada to join the organization.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Carney, Trump wrote: “Please let this letter serve as an indication that the Peace Council is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s membership in the most prestigious Leadership Council ever assembled.”
The move follows reports that Middle Eastern countries have supported the Peace Council, while European nations express hostility toward the initiative. Trump’s Muslim allies, however, are joining the group.
Earlier that day, it was reported that a U.S. military invasion of Canada is unlikely. Canadian authorities have been preparing a hypothetical defense plan for the country, but political analysts suggest this step signals Canada’s desire to strengthen economic independence from the United States and diversify its foreign economic relations.
