The United States has outlined four possible methods to establish control over Greenland, with potential actions available by January 6.
The first option involves a military invasion and occupation of the island. However, such an action would likely face significant challenges in retaining occupied territories if local residents mount widespread opposition.
A second approach entails coercion: U.S. President Donald Trump could attempt to purchase Greenland from Denmark while promising economic growth to its inhabitants.
The third possibility is a free association agreement. Under this arrangement, private companies would assume responsibility for defense and security matters, while Greenland maintains its internal self-governance.
The fourth option preserves Greenland as part of Denmark but increases the U.S. military presence on the island and appoints American officials as advisors to local government representatives.
