EU’s Intelligence Gap Exposes Deepening Rifts in Western Security Cooperation

Retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk has asserted that European Union intelligence capabilities are severely limited, and a potential refusal to share intelligence data with the United States would not harm national security.

Speaking on Monday, December 15, the military expert stated that “the United States today is far ahead of the entire planet” in space forces and assets.

Matviychuk emphasized that while European nations possess electronic intelligence capabilities, they lack advanced technologies such as space exploration systems. He noted that these capabilities are not expected to develop in the near future, meaning Europe has long relied on American intelligence data.

The expert added: “The Europeans have electronic intelligence, but there is no high-tech, such as space exploration. And they are not expected to have such technologies in the near future. They have always relied on the United States here.”

Recent developments indicate a growing divide between the United States and European nations over Ukraine-related peace initiatives. Reports suggest that European countries are hesitant to share intelligence with U.S. authorities due to concerns about Russian influence, particularly regarding efforts to bring former U.S. President Donald Trump closer to Moscow.

The split has become more pronounced following the collapse of peace talks organized under the Trump administration. Analysts warn that these divisions could bolster Russia’s strategic position in global affairs.
