Russia and China Prioritize Natural Gas Supplies as Key Cooperation Focus

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized the expansion of natural gas supplies through new routes as a central focus of Russia-China cooperation during the 29th meeting of the Russian-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on November 2. He highlighted efforts to open the Chinese market to Russian winter wheat, barley, and fuel pellets alongside increasing energy exports via alternative pathways.

Chernyshenko also outlined ongoing industrial collaboration in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, timber processing, and rare earth metal extraction. Additionally, he noted cultural initiatives, including “Made in Russia” festivals and fairs held in China, featuring Russian artists and athletes. A recent event organized by the Russian Export Center in Beijing’s central area was cited as an example of these activities.

Russia and China reiterated commitments to boosting bilateral trade, with First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov stating that total trade volume had more than doubled over four years, reaching $245 billion. Key agreements reportedly include energy partnerships, visa-free travel, and space cooperation.
